Philip J. Jennings has been General Secretary of UNI Global Union since its creation on 1 January 2000. At the time, Philip observed, “The creation of UNI is a thought-through strategy to take international trade union work to a new level of intensity to ‘change the rules of the game’.” As General Secretary, he is orchestrating the fight for dignity in the workplace, driving a plan for organizing the global workforce of skills and service workers in the new global labour market.

Philip, the son of a car factory worker and a shop worker, was born in Wales and is proud of his Welsh working class roots. He has made the journey from a council estate in Cardiff to the top position in the world’s largest global union, keeping the values he grew up with and his understanding of the positive impact union membership has on the lives of working families.

Educated in Cardiff, Philip graduated from Bristol Polytechnic with a business studies degree, followed by an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics. Read Philip Jennings’ full bio.
